Table of contents
The ability to share content and collaborate with the team makes Notion a stellar tool. While it’s super-easy to share a Notion page, linking to a section within the page is not as straightforward.
So if you are wondering how to add jump links beyond your table of contents or direct links to segments not under a header tag, this guide is for you.
We will demonstrate the process of getting the link to a Notion block and referencing it within the page, sharing it with your team, or linking it within the page or anywhere else in your workspace.
We will use the super-long block indicated in the below image for demonstration purposes.
TL;DR
Here’s how to link to a section of a Notion page:
1. Click the six-dots icon that appears on hovering over a block
2. Copy the link to the section
3. Add the copied link to the anchor text or share with an individual or team
Let’s get into details.
1. Click the six-dots icon that appears on hovering over a block
Scroll down to the section you want to link to and hover over it to make the six-dots icon visible. In our example, we will get the link to the ‘Key SEO elements:’ text block.
Click the six-dots icon at the left of the block. It would appear only when you hover over it.
2. Copy the link to the block
Clicking the six-dots icon opens up a list of options. Click on the ‘Copy link to block’ from the menu to copy the block URL to your clipboard.
3. Hyperlink text or share the URL with an individual or team
To reference the block from within or outside the page, add the copied link as hyperlink to anchor text. Alternatively, you can share the link with your team on Notion or Slack. Either way, clicking on it takes users to the selected section.
In our example, we will hyperlink the below text with the URL to the block.
Selecting the anchor text opens a toolbar. Click the ‘Add link’ option.
Paste the link in the newly displayed text box and type the ‘Return’ key to add the hyperlink.
Clicking on the link takes you directly to the relevant section, indicating successfully anchoring of the Notion section.
