Today we’re excited to launch a refresh of the Super brand identity, another step forward into the future of website publishing with Notion.
Why refresh?
The primary intention behind this brand refresh is simple: consistency. Since the early days of Super, we’ve always had an inconsistent identity with only a few golden threads, mostly because priorities were on the product.
Because of this, we ended up with a different zap icon and different shades of yellow across all of our online channels. As we grow our product and audience, we want our brand touch-points to become recognizable across the board. So from today everything will be more consistent and aligned to our vision thanks to our new head of design, Josh Millgate.
What’s changed?
Super now has a new logo. It was important to us to include a wordmark since the zap is not an original symbol in the website-builder space and therefore not reliably recognisable on it’s own. The wordmark is set on a skewed axis to communicate our forward-thinking approach and our blazing fast websites.
Before settling with the new zap symbol, we explored every zap imaginable from simple through to wildly abstract. We did love some of the more abstract iterations and will use them in some marketing applications but they didn’t feel like a right fit at this stage in our development.
We settled with a mark that is balanced, symmetrical and scalable. In most applications, the Super Zap sits comfortably inside the Super Squircle, a rounded rectangle graphic that has stuck with us since our version 2 update.
Our colors have been streamlined, tested and refined. We now have a full set of primary colors including ‘Super Void’ black and ‘Super Spark’ yellow. We will continue to use black and white in everything we do as a way of paying homage to Notion.
The future of Super’s identity
At Super, we are only just getting started in what we have to offer to the Notion community and because of this our identity is inevitably going to evolve as we grow. So we made sure that with this refresh we left space for change, and opened a few doorways to new possibilities.
Over the next few months we will continue working on moving our entire range of touch-points into alignment with this refresh, this will start with an overhaul of our landing website and will then continue expanding out into new areas, including Super Swag.
We love the idea of exploring a dynamic identity that can take on many forms whilst remaining recognizable and will continue to experiment with this as we grow. Here’s a peak behind the scenes at some of that.
Wrapping up
We’re more committed than ever to providing a high quality experience with Super and this is just another small step on that journey. Our product is going to improve massively in the coming months as we are closing in on our next major feature release. Stay tuned as we continue to evolve and bring more offerings to the table. Stay Super.
