Modernizing recruitment using simplicity and speed
Track Records, a tech startup based in Japan, firmly believes that a positive work environment is essential for any individual or corporate business to deliver high-quality output. And their two core products support this message: Colla is a Slack-based app that enables remote teams to communicate better, while Tech Hire handles all recruitment tasks for a seamless hiring process from start to finish.
As part of Tech Hire services, most clients also receive custom-built websites built with Super and Notion. Notion's easy-to-use content management system (CMS) enables fast website mockups for clients to approve and makes it simple for any future content updates without the need for external support.
At the same time, Super's fast publishing tools allow Tech Hire’s clients to stay on top of the fast-moving recruitment world to attract the best candidates by publishing and closing positions at a moment’s notice. With the site structure already in place, anyone in the HR department can change company or job position information.
“The main reason clients appreciate using Notion and Super is that it's incredibly easy to update content,” says Shun Nishimura, Sales Manager and delivery team member who oversees Tech Hire’s client projects from start to finish.
Untangling bloated hiring practices with a detailed strategy and no-code tools
In Japan, many businesses struggle to hire engineers, particularly in the IT industry. This means some highly-skilled roles are in high demand, especially for startups looking to expand. But it’s not just employers looking for candidates who encounter several obstacles — so do job seekers.
Organizations face a lack of a readily visible candidate pool. On the other hand, some businesses have insufficient information on their websites about their hiring process, which may deter applicants. Or they simply don’t have a dedicated recruitment professional to oversee applicant scouting and interviewing.
In 2020, Track Records began addressing these ineffective hiring practices with its latest venture, Tech Hire. The specialized consultancy service helps businesses of all sizes attract more candidates and improve the recruitment process. Shun joined the team two years after the company had launched Tech Hire.
“As a first step, we interview our clients to gather all the necessary details,” says Shun. “We then organize this information using Notion and publish it using Super. In fact, we also use Super and Notion for our own website.”
The startup has used Super and Notion for approximately three years now. Initially, the team relied primarily on the standard features. However, as time passed, they started using more advanced functionalities, like CSS customization, to enhance each website's appearance and functionality.
Many of the company’s clients are already familiar with Notion, which is often preferred for startups and companies familiar with modern collaboration tools. However, they may not be aware of Super.
“As part of our service, we introduce them to Super, set everything up, ensure smooth functionality, and then hand over the website management to them. In some cases, we ask clients to create their own Super account, allowing them to have full control over their website.”
“We have explored other tools, such as Webflow, to create richer websites. However, we have found that Notion and Super are the easiest for updating and generating content.”
A tech stack that enables faster ideation and project deployment
As the primary point of contact with clients, Shun gathers their requirements and collaborates to deliver a site design that fits their vision. This means Shun had to master Notion and Super essentials as part of his role.
“Although I'm not well-versed in coding, I communicate the desired changes to our engineer, who handles the actual coding work. I play a role in conceptualizing the website and providing feedback during the wireframe and development stages. I also make small tweaks to both the website and the Notion pages.”
“There was a learning curve for me, but I found Notion’s user interface to be quite intuitive. It wasn't too difficult to grasp, although I may not have utilized all its features when I started. When I discovered Super, I found it easy to publish content.”
With the company operating on a one-on-one consultation basis for now, speeding up the website-building process from ideation to completion is essential. This is where templates come in handy.
“Previously, with tools like Webflow or WordPress, we had to create a framework, present it in text, and go through several stages before the client got a sense of the design,” Shun explains.
“With Notion, the process is much smoother. Within a few days, we have a template ready. We just need to gather the necessary information and publish it. Super allows us to go live quickly. Any changes we make are instantly visible, refreshing in just a few seconds.”“That's another reason why we appreciate Super — it enables us to work efficiently and see immediate results.”
Letting clients focus on hiring talent, not website management
A well-researched and implemented action plan is at the core of Tech Hire clients’ success in hiring skilled professionals. Notion and Super come in to help facilitate access to the right information in a way that’s easy to access and digest. And more importantly – update.
Clients can fill roles with the right talent faster, and applicants can easily determine if the company is the right fit and if the position will support their career development. It’s a win-win for both parties.
In Shun’s experience, the aesthetic results possible with Notion and Super are sufficient for most recruiting websites.
“The clients are generally happy with the design and the functional aspects of their websites. Moreover, easy access to Notion's backend allows everyone involved to make changes and updates.”
This means clients no longer need the expense of hiring or retaining external website support professionals. They also do not need to wait for website support to update any content, which can be time-critical for certain recruitment information.
“Previously, when they used platforms like WordPress, it was a hassle for them to make even small changes,” says Shun. “Since most of our clients are from HR backgrounds, they aren't familiar with website management.”
“Once a website was built, they couldn't update it without significant help or coordination with vendors,” says Shun. ”However, with Notion and Super, they can easily make day-to-day changes and see them updated immediately.”
“Most clients are content with this setup, which is why we continue to use Notion and Super.”
