You need to first export the database in a CSV format and then import it into Google Sheets as there’s no direct way to export Notion to Google Sheets. Here how to do that:
- Open the Notion database
- Click the three-dots icon and select "Export"
- Choose "Markdown & CSV" as the export format
- Save and unzip the exported file
- In Google Sheets, go to File > Import
- Select the exported CSV file
- Access the Notion database in Google Sheets
This process transfers your Notion database content into Google Sheets for further analysis or manipulation.
Let’s discuss the process in detail.
1. Open the Notion page containing the database
We will use a Notion budget tracker database for reference.
2. Export Notion database
Click the three-dots icon at the top-right of the table view database and select the Export option.
While we can export the whole page, we will export only the database for simplicity.
To do that, first open the database as a full-page. Next, click the three-dots icon at the top-right of the screen and click on the Export option.
3. Select the right format to export
We need to export the database in a format that Google Sheets can read - CSV. Click the Export Format option and select the Markdown & CSV option.
Customize your export further by changing the view of the database. We have set it to Current view in our example. You can remove files and images from the export, but we will include all database content in our example.
Once you are happy with the settings, click the blue Export button.
4. Save the Notion table in your local drive
Assign a file name to the export and specify the folder in your local drive where you want to save your document.
5. Unzip the exported file
Notion exports two files each time you select the Markdown & CSV option: One file contains all the contents of the page, while the other contains only the database.
Since we exported the database alone, there won’t be any difference in the two files in our example.
6. Import the database into Google Sheets
1. Create a new Google Sheets document, click on ‘File’ in the menu bar, then click on ‘Import’.
2. Browse for the recently exported file
Click on Browse and find the exported CSV in your local drive or simply drag and drop it into the Browse window.
3. Replace the current sheet
7. Access the Notion database in Google Sheets
Exporting a Notion database to Google Sheets is a simple yet powerful way to extend your data analysis capabilities. While changes in Sheets won't sync back to Notion, you can efficiently leverage both platforms to enhance your productivity and data insights.
