Remember the article you felt had a solution to a pressing challenge? You wanted to peruse it immediately but had to prioritize putting out a fire, so you decided to read it later. It stayed in a Chrome tab until a system restart, after which you lost it forever.
You've got to get better at storing the content you come across! While you can stockpile future reads in a private reading list, it's quicker to paste the links in a tool you frequently use, like Notion, where they stay in sight and thus in mind.
If short on time, simply paste links directly on a page. For more organized tracking, add links into a structured bookmark manager database.
Either way, you never lose content even if you forget about it.
In this guide, we will demonstrate how to quickly bookmark a page in Notion.
Here are the five steps:
1. Create a new page
Create a new Notion page to record bookmarks, and tag it as Favorite to access it quickly from your Notion homepage. You can even add a bookmark manager database if you want to be more organized.
We will use the below page for reference.
2. Initiate the bookmark widget
Type “/bookmark” and click on the Web bookmark option.
3. Paste the link to the page you want to bookmark
And click on the “Create bookmark” button to set up the bookmark.
Elements of a Notion bookmark
Notion bookmark of a page consists of its meta title, meta description, link, and a featured image - if the creator added one. You can click on any element or anywhere within the block to open the page in a new tab.
That’s how you add a bookmark to Notion. You can fine-tune the appearance and add a caption to specify its purpose. Let’s see how.
4. Change the background color (optional)
You can’t change the text color of a Web bookmark block, but you can edit the background by clicking on the three-dots icon at the top-right, hovering over the Color option, and selecting a background color.
We decided on a yellow background as indicated in the below image.
5. Add a caption for recognition (optional)
Pasting links on your bookmarks page is a quick and efficient way to record them. It ensures you do not lose them, but it’s hard to find a link when there are hundreds of them. It’s also difficult to gauge its context without a caption.
Adding a caption allows you to insert keywords that will help you locate the page faster through Notion search.
You can add a caption to your Web bookmark block by first clicking on the three-dots icon and then on Caption.
Next, you can type the caption as demonstrated below.
The caption, in this instance, informs the user that super.so is a Notion website builder. They can locate this block faster by typing Notion website builder in the search bar.

What’s the difference between a bookmark and embed in Notion?
When you embed a page, it renders within the Notion page. You can scroll like it were open in a new tab. A Notion bookmark, on the other hand, opens the page in a new tab and takes you away from Notion. It works similar to an outbound Notion link.
Another point of difference is that you can resize an embed block while the bookmark’s size is fixed.
Notion bookmarks don’t just record links for future access. You can use them to create wikis, share resources, cite research sources in your Notion blog — the applications are endless! But the process of creating bookmarks stays the same.
