In this guide, we will demonstrate the process of embedding a YouTube video in Notion.
1. Set up an embed block
Type “/embed” anywhere after creating a new Notion page. This will prompt Notion to display the embed block, as shown in the image below.
Click on the “Embed” option to create an empty embed block.
2. Grab the video embed code
While you can grab the embed code of any video on most platforms, we will stick with YouTube because it’s the most popular video sharing site.
1. Open the Youtube video and click on “Share”
YouTube will display many avenues to share the video, such as WhatsApp, Reddit, etc., as demonstrated in the image below.
2. Click on the “Embed” option
Since we want to embed the video in Notion, we need to access the embed code. Clicking on the “Embed” option displays the code.
3. Set the video start time and click on copy
The start time that you enter is input into the embed code. After embedding it inside Notion, your video will start playing from the specified timestamp. You can leave it at 0:00 to play the video from the start.
After calibrating the start time, click on copy to copy the embed code.
3. Paste the embed code in the block
And click on the “Embed link” button, as displayed in the image below.
4. Resize the video embed block
Hovering over the embedded video will display edge lines as displayed in the image below.
You can click and drag on them to resize the embed block. This feature can help you adjust the dimensions of the video to make it look aesthetic.
5. Add a video caption (optional)
While this step is optional, you can add a caption to the embedded video by clicking on the caption icon at the top-right corner of the block, as demonstrated in the image below.

Potential reasons your Notion video embed in not working
Incorrect embed code
Ensure that you have copied the correct embed code from the video hosting platform (e.g., YouTube, Vimeo). Even a small error in the code can prevent the video from displaying properly. Make sure you have not accidentally added or deleted a character.
Unsupported video platform
While Notion connects well with popular video platforms, it may not support direct embedding from certain video platforms. Make sure you are using a platform that is compatible with Notion's embedding capabilities.
Internet connection issues
A slow or unstable internet connection can lead to problems loading embedded content. Make sure your internet connection is stable, and try refreshing the Notion page.
Video availability
If the video has been deleted or set to private on the video hosting platform, it will not be accessible for embedding unless your Notion account gets exclusive access. Confirm that the video is still available and accessible.
