Notion has quickly become the central hub for many teams and businesses, partly because of its capability to integrate and sync with external tools. With the Notion Calendar product module, Notion extends this capability to the calendar ecosystem.
This is different from the capability of embedding Google Calendar in Notion, which only allows the Google Calendar to render in Notion.
By integrating their Google Calendar(s) with Notion, users can see all their events in one place. They can even set up events directly from Notion and have them appear in their Google Calendar.
This feature provides a consolidated view of all events and meetings allowing users to plan their day. A user, for example, can get their personal and business calendars into Notion and ensure that no meetings or events overlap.
Though other Notion users can’t check availability while booking a meeting, the ability to sync Google Calendars is a stellar feature that improves productivity.
This guide will help you set up a Notion calendar-Google Calendar sync in seven simple steps.
TL;DR
1. Access Notion calendar
2. Connect with Google
3. Sign into your Google account
4. Set permissions
5. Sync Notion calendar with Google Calendar
6. Create an event with Notion calendar and verify its creation in Google Calendar
7. Create an event in Google Calendar and verify its appearance in Notion calendar
Let’s get into details.
1. Access Notion Calendar from the Notion sidebar
Clicking on the ‘Calendar’ option pops up a window where you can sign into the Google Workspace account that you want to integrate with Notion.
2. Connect a Google account with Notion
Click the ‘Continue with Google’ button to start the process of connecting Google with Notion.
Next, set up the connection with Google Calendar by clicking the ‘Continue to Google permissions’ button.
3. Sign into the preferred Google account
Select the Google account you want to sign into.
4. Set the right permissions
Notion Calendar will request access to your Google Calendar and Google Workspace contacts. While you can allow access only to the calendar for privacy, allowing access to contacts allows you to find them right from Notion while setting up meetings.
In this guide, we are giving Notion access only to the calendar, not the contacts. That’s why all checkboxes next to the ‘Contact’ fields are empty.
5. Sync Notion calendar with Google Calendar
Google Calendar connects with Notion as soon as you provide access by logging into your Google Workspace account. We just need to finish the integration with Notion Calendar. Click the ‘Get started’ button to finish the process.
6. Create an event with Notion calendar and verify its creation in Google Calendar
Next, let’s verify if the two tools have been synced successfully. We’ll start by creating an event in Notion Calendar and checking if it appears in the Google Calendar.
We created an event called ‘Test event’ in the Notion Calendar for 12PM, Oct 10.
Let’s check the Google Calendar now.
We have an event with that name, at the specified time slot.
7. Create an event in Google Calendar and verify its appearance in Notion calendar
Now let’s create an event in the Google Calendar and check if it’s accessible through the Notion Calendar.
We created the event- Test event 2 -at 3PM on the same day.
The Google Calendar also has the same event at the specified slot, indicating that setting up the two-way sync between the two tools was successful.
Notion Calendar is a separate product module, if you want to learn about the built-in Notion database’s calendar view instead… Access this guide
