Notion is an easy to use content editing tool packed with features like markdown and spell check. Whether you use Notion for blogging or taking class notes, managing content in it is a breeze.
However, Google Docs is the goto writing and collaboration tool for most teams.
If you write in Notion but your team uses Docs, you will have to export your content to the shared Google Drive to make it accessible.
One caveat though — Notion does not support export to Google Docs.
But there are two ways to do that anyway, which we cover in this guide.
Method 1: Export Notion to PDF, upload it to Google Drive, and open it with Google Docs
1. Open the Notion page to export
We will use the below page for reference.
2. Click on the three-dots icon on the top-right of the page and then on Export
3. Export in PDF format
Click the Export format dropdown and select PDF.
Customize the export based on your requirements. Here are a few options that you can tweak:
1. Include database
Export databases in your page in the default view or the current view.
2. Include content
Choose to retain or remove media from the backup version.
3. Page format
Choose one of these page formats to export your PDF:
- A4
- A3
- Letter (default)
- Legal
- Tabloid
4. Scale percentage
It’s set to 100% by default - you can scale in or out by changing the percentage value.
Business pricing plan subscribers can even customize the appearance of the subpages.
After customizing the settings, click on the Export button as indicated in the below image.
Select the local folder where you want to export the PDF file and click the Save button.
Notion will export the PDF file to the selected folder.
4. Drag and Drop the PDF file to Google Drive
5. Open the file with Google Docs
Click the three-dots icon next to the PDF file, click the Open with expand option, and select Google Docs.
And that’s it! You can now access your Notion page in Google Docs.
Method 2: Copy and Paste
A simpler method to move your content in Notion to Google Docs is copying and pasting content.
However, the markdown features of the two tools are not completely compatible, resulting in abrupt line breaks and formatting errors, especially when pasting header tags and Notion databases into Google Docs.
Nevertheless, it's the fastest way to move content from Notion to Docs and quite useful, but for the need to manually fix formatting errors.
