Making Notion pages look aesthetic is important, especially when your day revolves around navigating numerous Notion pages. While Notion blocks and dark mode allow you to structure your page professionally, you do not get a lot of design customization capabilities with Notion.
While you can change the background color of a page to black with the Notion dark mode, you can’t change it to your preferred hue, until you create a Notion website with Super. However, Changing the background color of Notion blocks is a straightforward process. However, the Notion database block requires a workaround — we will also cover that bit in this article.
To change the background color of a Notion block, simply click on the six-dots icon that appears when you hover-over it, move the cursor to the “Color” option, and finally select a background color.
Another quicker method is to type “/color” and select the color combination that Notion displays.
An even faster method is typing the color name after a “/”. For example, by typing “/Yellow”, you will see two options — to set the color of the text and to set a color combination of text and background.
Let’s cover the steps in detail.
1. Open the Notion page
In our example, we will use a sample Agency dashboard page as displayed in the below image.
2. Click on the six-dot button
Let’s change the color of the text block that reads “Focus Area”. By hovering over the block, you will see a six-dot icon next to the block, as displayed in the below image.
Click on it to initiate a view with a set of options.
3. Click on the “Color” option and choose a background color
The color option will contain all the color options that Notion offers at the block level, as displayed in the below image
Let’s select the “Orange” background for our example.
4. Click anywhere on the page
After completing these steps, observe the changed background color of the block. See the below image for reference.
