TL;DR
To change the background color in Notion:
- Open a Notion page, hover over the block that needs a color update.
- Click the six-dots icon that appears on hovering.
- Expand the “Color” option and click the preferred background color.
A quicker method is typing “/color” and selecting the color combination that Notion displays.
For databases and tables:
- Color rows or columns from their menus, color individual cells with the A icon.
- For a full-width look, place the database inside a colored Toggle or Callout.
Notion can’t set a custom page background beyond Dark Mode’s black.
- Want any page background color? Use Super → Design → Colors → Page background and set a hex or use the picker.
Making Notion pages look aesthetic is important when you look at them all day, everyday. Notion blocks and dark mode allow some customization but it’s quite limited.
While you can change the background color of a page to black with the Notion dark mode, you can’t change it to another color, until you create a Notion website with Super.
