Let’s get into details.
1. Create a new Notion page
Click on the ‘+’ icon next to a folder in your Notion sidebar, or type ‘/page’ in any of the existing pages to create a new Notion page.
We will use the following page for reference in this guide.
2. Click on the ‘Templates’ button in the sidebar
Alternatively, click on the ‘Templates’ button towards the bottom of the page.
Both of these buttons take you to the same page with all built-in Notion templates.
3. Search for the right templates using the search bar
Click in the Notion search bar and type the category of template that you want to import.
In our example, we will import a portfolio template. We’ll do that by typing ‘portfolio’ into the search bar.
Notion immediately gives more suggestions such as design portfolio, personal portfolio, etc. Choose one that best aligns with your needs. However, we will explore all portfolio templates in our example.
4. Select one from the list that Notion displays
Notion will display thumbnails for all templates. Click on the template that catches your eye to access more information about it.
5. Preview the template to ensure it meets your needs
On accessing the preview screen, you will be able to see more details about the template such as a summary of its contents, creator details, sharing options, associated tags, etc.
But what might catch your eye immediately is the ‘Preview’ button. Clicking on it will take you to another page with the full view of the template. You can scroll through the page, check out different sections, page layout, and other design and functional elements before deciding to import the template into your page.
6. Import the Notion template
Click on the sticky blue ‘Add to my workspace’ button towards the bottom of the page to import the Notion template into your page.
7. Customize the template
We have successfully imported the template into the ‘Private’ space within Notion.
Next, we can customize the template design and layout to align it with our needs. This could include adding or removing blocks or changing the background color of text, as demonstrated in the below image.
