Notion databases can become quite complex when dealing with large-scale projects. They rely heavily on metadata for tracking and analysis. This causes too many columns to appear in the database, overwhelming users and impacting readability.
Another disadvantage of having too many properties is that each time you open a database item, you will have to scroll down a huge list of properties to reach the page body. This leads to a poor user experience. Most pages do not require all properties to be visible but you might still need them in the backend to support associated rollup databases.
By hiding certain properties, you can make the database and associated pages look clean and aesthetic.
Here’s how to do that:
1. Open the Notion database
Create a new Notion database or open one that has properties that you want to hide.
We will show you how to hide properties in Notion by referencing the below database.
2. Click the three-dots icon and then the Properties option
Access all database properties from this section.
3. Click the eye icon next to the properties that you want to hide
Let’s hide the Avoidable/Reducible property in our sample database. To do that, simply click the eye icon next to it, as indicated in the image below.
Notion removes the Avoidable/Reducible property from the database and moves it to the Hidden in table section within the Properties view. It also changes the color of the eye icon to light gray, indicating that the property is hidden.

2. Expand the Property visibility option and select the Always Hide option
3. Notion hides the property from view and moves it to the 1 hidden property dropdown

How to hide Notion properties when sharing?
Notion does not support hiding properties in a shared database - those whom you share the database with see the same properties as you do. You must duplicate the database, remove selected properties, and then share the content with users if you want to restrict properties from showing.
