Notion is the perfect tool for project management. It allows you to create project dashboards, set tasks with properties, and monitor progress seamlessly. However, one associated feature that often goes unnoticed is the ability to set up reminders.
It may seem like a very basic function but it serves an important purpose — it acts as an alert system and informs you when you are about to hit a deadline, thus helping you prevent delays. Even if you are not managing a team in Notion and only using it for personal productivity, setting reminders can help you stay on track with your schedule.
In this article, we will cover the steps to setting up a reminder in Notion.
Let’s get started.
1. Go to the page or task where you want to set up the reminder.
You can set up reminders anywhere in Notion, be it a new page or an ongoing project task.
2. Activate the “Date or Reminder” block
To begin setting up a reminder in Notion, type “/remind” or “/date” on the page. This action will activate the “Date or Reminder” block as demonstrated in the below image.
Proceed by clicking on the “Today” option to initiate the block, as visible in the below image. You can alternatively select the “Remind Tomorrow 9am” option — either option works because we will customize the reminder date in the ensuing step.
3. Change the reminder date
Your current reminder is set for today's date. To change the date, click on the reminder block, this will prompt Notion to pull up the calendar as demonstrated in the below image.
You can scroll through the months and select the date when you want the reminder notification to appear in the notifications section.
4. Set the time for the reminder
By default, the Notion sets the reminder for 9AM on the date you select. But you may want to change the time when the reminder sets off.
To do that, first click on the toggle to “Include time”. Next, click on the Dropdown next to “Remind” to pull up the view that lists the timestamps when the reminder can go off, as displayed in the below image.
That’s it, your reminder is set. You will receive a notification from Notion at the date and time of your choice!

How to assign a Notion reminder to a team member?
You can assign a Notion reminder to a team member by using the mention shortcut twice in the same line, one for mentioning the team member and the other for setting the timer. Write @ to pull up the list of all your team members who can access the page and click on the person who you want to remind. In the same line, type @remind and set the date and time when you want to notify them.
By setting the reminder and mention displayed in the above image, we ensured that Notion sends a reminder notification to Shane Vernen at 9 am on Wednesday.
How to set task reminders in Notion?
There are two methods of adding a reminder to a task within a Notion database.
1. Adding an inline reminder
Click on the name of the task in the table view of the database and write @. Notion will display the default options of adding a reminder for today or tomorrow at 9 am. Select any option and once the default reminder is in place, click on it and edit the date and time.
2. Adding reminders within the task page
If you want to keep the database organized, you can add the reminder inside the task page, instead of the task title. To do that, open the task page and write @. You can then set the date and time for the reminder.
