Table of contents
Where Notion wins, it also risks losing. It does an excellent job of replacing multiple tools but that also means far more content ends up stored in one place - usually the General folder.
Over time, much of it slips into Notion oblivion…buried and disconnected, only to resurface when you’re running out of space.
One of the most effective ways to avoid this is by linking pages together. It helps you keep track of content in context and build meaningful cross-folder connections.
Ready to start linking pages in Notion? Here are four ways to do it:
1. Using ‘@’ or ‘[[‘ to mention the page:
This is the quickest way to add a reference to another page within your content. Often called Notion tagging, it creates an internal link to an existing page but does not nest it as a subpage.
- Type ‘@’ or ‘[[’ on the Notion page
- Begin typing the name of the page you want to link
- Select the page from the dropdown
2. Using the ‘/link to page’ block
This method adds a full-width block that clearly links to another page in your workspace.
- Type /link to page
- Start typing the name of the page you want to link and select it from the list
3. Pasting the URL
This is a flexible way to link to any Notion page - even ones outside your current workspace or view.
- Copy the URL of the page you want to link
- Paste it into the Notion page
- From the prompt, choose ‘Mention’
This will convert the pasted link into a clickable card pointing to the destination page.
4. Linking within text (Inline Links):
You can also create hyperlinks to Notion pages within your sentence flow. This is great for cleaner writing and better user experience. Learn more in this guide to Notion hyperlinks.
- Highlight the text you want to turn into a link
- Click the link icon or press Ctrl+K (or Cmd+K on Mac)
- Paste the URL of the Notion page or search by name
Use this method when writing documentation, guides, or any long-form content that benefits from embedded references.
