The Notion table view is useful across many pages. The ability to copy Notion tables allows users to create once and use forever. For example, you might create a budget tracker for January and use the database template for the rest of the year.
While copying a Notion table view is not as straightforward as using the CMD/CTRL + X keyboard shortcut, it’s still a very simple process. In fact, there are five ways to copy Notion tables based on your needs and We'll discuss them all in this guide.
Method 1: Duplicate the Notion table view
Use this method to create a copy of the table within the same database.
1. Open the target Notion database
We'll demonstrate the process using a habit tracker database — It has a table titled ‘Week 1’.
We'll show you how to copy it using the five methods.
2. Copy the Notion table view
To copy the Notion table, right click the tab name and select the ‘Duplicate’ option. This will create a copy of the table view tab right next to the main tab titled - tabname(1).
3. Edit the copied database view
Since the table view we used is titled ‘Week 1’, the copied version is named ‘Week 1(1)’ by default. You can edit this view without impacting the original Notion database.
Method 2: Duplicate the complete database
This method is useful if you have a database with multiple tables. It creates a full copy of all the table views in the same order.
Before getting started, ensure that the database is not open in full-view.
1. Right click the six-dots icon that appears when you hover over the database
2. Copy the Notion table with or without existing content
Since you want to copy the table with all its content, select the ‘Duplicate with content’ option.
Here’s the complete guide to duplicating a Notion database.
3. Access the duplicated Notion table
Notion displays the copied version of all the table views with the main title being original_title(1).
In our example, the copied table is titled ‘Building Good Habits (1).’ You can rename it and edit its content without affecting the main database.
Method 3: Copy link to the table view
This method is useful when you want to copy the Notion table to another page. In summary, We'll first copy the link and then paste it on the preferred page to link the database view.
1. Right click the six-dots icon and select the ‘Copy link’ option
2. Paste the link on the preferred page and select the ‘Linked database view option’
3. Access the copied version of the Notion table
Method 4: Copy the page link
This method is useful if you want to copy the Notion table as a subpage in the Notion sidebar.
1. Open the Notion table in full-view
Click the ‘full-width’ icon to open the Notion table in full view.
This will open the Notion table as a full page.
2. Click the page settings icon and copy the Notion table view page with content
Access the page settings by clicking the three-dots icon at the top-right of the screen. Expand the ‘Duplicate’ option — you will find two suboptions ‘Duplicate with content’ and ‘Duplicate without content’.
Select the first option to copy the table with all its content.
3. Access the copied Notion table
Method 5: Select all cells and use the ‘Copy’ shortcut
This method works for a simple Notion table, not a database table view. It’s a simple copy-paste function but it doesn’t work for a standalone database table view because it copies all values into a single cell.
1. Select the whole table by clicking and dragging the mouse cursor, and use the keyboard shortcut to copy
Make sure to click and drag the cursor to select the table — clicking the 6-dots icon and copying doesn’t work.
2. Paste the Notion table
Use the CMD/CTRL + V shortcut to paste the table at the desired location. It will appear exactly the same as the original table.
