Table of contents
Whether you're curating a content library, managing a product catalog, or building out your blog site, you’ll eventually need to add images to your Notion database. Images don’t just make your tables look cleaner or more aesthetic, they serve a functional purpose too.
In content-heavy use cases like blogs, adding images helps improve scanability, adds visual hierarchy, and makes your database easier to work with.
But more importantly, images also contribute to SEO - they enable alt text, improve appearance in Google Images, and can boost on-site engagement by retaining users for longer.
Here’s how to add images to your Notion table the right way.
1. Create a database or access an existing one
Start by creating a new database (inline or full-page), or open an existing one where you want to add images. We will use the below database for reference.
2. Add the ‘Files & media’ property
Click the ‘+’ button at the end of your table columns to add a new property. From the property types, select ‘Files & media’. This will create a column that supports image uploads and embeds.
3. Add the image
Click on a cell in the ‘Files & media’ column. You will see options to upload an image from your computer or paste a public image URL.
Here’s what the image looks like after being added to the Notion table view.
4. Expand the image by clicking on it
Notion tables don’t allow resizing or cropping images directly within the cell. To view a larger version, click the thumbnail. This opens the image in an expanded view.
The Notion Gallery View will display these images in blog homepage style but the images are not clickable. Notion does not support that feature. To make your gallery images clickable and create high performance articles for your business, create your blog with Super.
